Lady on Motorbike

We were invited to a friend’s housewarming in Canberra so how could we miss the chance of exploring a few of the roads around there and, er, of course celebrating our friend’s new pad?

The trip to Canberra was nothing much to speak of except, if you must leave a capital city and head to the country on a Friday evening, a motorbike and confident lane filtering is the way to go. Especially when the normally territorial Sydney drivers turn considerate and helpful by thoughtfully moving to the side of the lane to allow us easy passage through heavy traffic. Thanks everyone :-).

On Saturday morning, we had a few hours before the party so decided to visit the wonderfully named Wee Jasper. Not that there was much to draw us to the town but the roads there looked FABULOUS!

And we were not disappointed, well surfaced and flanked by everything the southern Australian countryside could offer. Here’s a few pics:

 

One of the things that I love about exploring Australia is the random pieces of artwork, this is is just outside Wee Jasper.

We turned around at Wee Jasper due to our available time but we really could have continued onto Tumut. Google Maps implied that the road there would have been unsealed but we didn’t see any evidence of that. A trip for another day.

Retracing our ride, we decided to check out Uriarra village; this led us onto Cotter Road. Incredible surface and wide curves, we think we have discovered the Old Pacific Highway of Canberra ie a nearby road which is used as a quick ride route by local riders with not a lot of time on their hands. Passing a number of bikes, Gary spotted a ZX14, this probably wasn’t fellow blogger Zed14 but it certainly made us think of him in his local area and how lucky is his to have such great roads at his doorstep.

Our return to Sydney on Sunday took us back via Crookwell, a new favourite of ours, always lovely including this riverside picnic spot.
