Our mission was to explore the Omeo Highway, but it’s a long way from Sydney so a 5 day weekend really is the ideal opportunity to visit this epic road.
Travel
Millthorpe Weekend
An Antarctic blob came through last week and dropped snow in the Blue Mountains, prior to that we went skiing in the Snowy Mountains. We thought we were done with snow this winter, but we were wrong.
The Freedom Ride!
Gordon was planning this ride pretty much since we went into lockdown for COVID-19. He named it ‘The Freedom Ride’.

Perry & The Puncture
We’re merrily riding along and Gary says to me, over the intercom, ‘I think I have a puncture’. ‘Oh’ I say, ‘I guess we’d better stop then’. But what to do? We had packed a puncture repair kit but have not had to repair a puncture before. Fortunately, we were with friends so Perry to the rescue, with credit to Gordon for finding the hole!
The Beauty of Canberra and its Surrounds…
We were invited to a friend’s housewarming in Canberra so how could we miss the chance of exploring a few of the roads around there and, er, of course celebrating our friend’s new pad?
Water 💦 and Fire 🔥
A weekend to the far north Hunter Valley region led us to head east and explore the Great Lakes area. There we discovered beautiful coastline and an out of control bush fire.
Crookwell, Cleanest Air in New South Wales!
Well, isn’t amazing the things you learn when you venture away from the big smoke! And indeed we learned that and more when overnighting in Crookwell. Plus we experienced some of the wonders of Australia’s native wildlife.
I’m a Rylstone Cowboy, sort of…
A weekend away with a group of riders, staying at the pioneering town of Rylstone.
Hopefully we’re not the only people for whom when they hear the name Rylstone, the Glen Campbell hit “Rhinestone Cowboy” instantly springs to mind. If not, the title of this post will make no sense. “Ridin out on a horse, in a star spangled rodeo”.
Oxley Oxley Oxley, Oi Oi Oi!
Looking to capitalise on a long weekend for the Queen’s Birthday in early June, we headed north to the amazing Oxley Highway. It was a successful trip, despite the inconvenience of forgetting most of our luggage!
